The library has taken out a subscription to Health Care Risk Report. The journal focuses on patient safety, clinical and non-clinical risk.

The current issue, which is now available in the library, contains an article on the steps which NHS Western Cheshire are using to manage risk within the organisation.

NHS Western Cheshire and Community Care Western Cheshire staff can access the latest issue of the Freedom of Information Journal through the Trust’s extranet page.

This issue contains news about Freedom of Information exemptions, Commercial Confidentiality and the reorganisation of the Information Tribunal, alongside other Freedom of Information news.

Drug and Therapeutics Bulletin

Drug and Therapeutics bulletin contains articles of interest to groups including pharmacists, medicines managers and GPs, such as the recent investigation into aspirin as a preventative measure against stroke and cardiovascular disease.

Free Online Access to SAGE Journals until 31st October 2009

SAGE are offering free online access to their online journal collection until 31st October 2009, with content available from 1999-current.

The collection includes over 500 journals, with a wide variety of health titles including: Chronic Respiratory Disease, Dementia, Vascular MedicineChild Language Teaching and Therapy and Perspectives in Public Health.

Updated Bulletins of Interest to Staff

Several new bulletins have recently been published which may be of interest to library users.

This month’s edition of The Commissioner is now available to be viewed by staff.  The Commissioner is a monthly bulletin produced by NHS Librarians to keep you up to date with developments in commissioning.

Map of Medicine, the evidence-based clinical pathway tool designed to assist healthcare professionals in their decision making, has published its Newsletter which is aimed at keeping NHS staff updated with developments in Map of Medicine.

Current Bytes is published fortnightly by Health Librarians, and is aimed at keeping readers up to date with the electronic knowledge base, usually with a particular focus on mental health.

Also recently published, NHS Western Cheshire and Community Care Western Cheshire staff now have access to the most recent issue of  Freedom of Information Journal, which can be viewed on the extranet. This issue contains stories on the Freedom of Information Act, the Information Tribunal and Freedom of Information News.


New Resources

We have a number of new resources available in the library.

Members of staff who have access to the NHS Western Cheshire extranet can follow links on the library pages to Freedom of Information Journal. Published six times a year, this journal is a vital read for all those who work in the field of information.

We also have a number of new books available in the library again this month. A list of new books is available here.

In addition, Current Awareness bulletins The Commissioner and Current Bytes have recently been published.

New Journals

February 4, 2009

We now have access to two new electronic journals through the National Library for Health, Contraception and Health and Place.

Contraception is the official journal of the Association of Reproductive Health Professionals and the Society of Family Planning. Its aim is to provide a medium for the rapid communication of advances and new knowledge in all areas of contraception.

Health and Place is an interdisciplinary journal dedicated to the study of all aspects of health and health care in which place or location matters. Topics covered include medical geography, medical sociology, health policy, public health and epidemiology.

Both of these journals can be accessed through the ‘My Journals’ link on the National Library for Health website using your Athens username and password.
